What are you talking about? What do you see? You ever heard of the beats AKA “beatnicks” from the late 50’s-early 60s? They were mad about jazz and grew their hair “long” for the time.that’s what I see. Louis Prima plays King Louie (see the name similarity?) and the monkeys are like the beatnicks…even their hair resembles the beats. The little mermaid? Give me a break. Mulan? I don’t get it. It’s totally out of context. And the setting does change a damn thing: cultural context
@Allina09 yeah i know that’s what they were thinking, but i’ve seen “the making of” and there really was no intention of making them allude to blacks at all.
it was just the music style that was popular in the 60s when this was made.
dumbo was more racist than the jungle book, so ppl should lay off this movie.
They were saying that the monkeys resemble black people. So apparently they are the ones that are racists. We aren’t the only ones with brown skin and if we are i don’t think it’s hurting anyone.
I thought so, someone had all these racist comments on here and i didn’t see why. I don’t find anything racist about the jungle book, it’s just a fun movie to watch.
There’s nothing racist in the Jungle book. King Louie is based on and is sung by the ITALIAN great jazz singer Louis Prima. That’s how he sounds in real life too. The story takes place in India and Mowgli is an Indian boy.
interestingly, in many films of that era (gengis khan for example) included no “non-WASPs” at all becuase the directors simply refused to work with them. The fact that many disney movies is converse to this was quite ‘englightend’ for the time eitherway.
NOT racist. King Louie was by and based on Louie Prima an ITALIAN. not an african american. The film takes place in INDIA, not africa. Mowgli a.k.a Man Cub is obviously indian not white. And all attributes that make people go “well why do the “monkeys” have to do that” such as lawlessness and speaking jiberish are because thats how they are in the original Mowgli stories. Do you realy think Walt would intentionaly do something racialy controvercial in the mid 60’s with everything going on then.

Best Disney ever !! <3
@MrBigGuy1989 It should say “King Louie was voiced by and based on Louie Prima.”
